Kentucky Student Writing Contest

Rules and Procedures

The Kentucky Council of Teachers of English/Language Arts announces its 2011 Writing Contest. The contest is designed to recognize the exceptional writing of Kentucky students. All current (expiration date 31 December 2011 or later) KCTE/LA members may send student work into the competition.

RULES: Contest begins 01 January 2011. No teacher may submit more than three (3) total student entries in any one category. If more than three entries are submitted, all entries submitted by that teacher will be disqualified from judging. All entries except for articles, plays, and poetry should be formatted double-spaced with standard one-inch margins. Plays, poetry, and feature articles may be single-spaced where appropriate. Submissions will be through the KCTE/LA Contest web site. Signed coversheets must be mailed by postal mail to the appropriate section vice president (see below). Poems by the same author should each be submitted separately with separate coversheets for each. The coversheet must be complete, including the student signature. Cover sheets are generated automatically when you submit an entry. You will need to print the generated form to mail it in. The teacher must deal with any suspected plagiarism.

PROCEDURES: Appropriate links to the electronic submission forms on the KCTE/LA contest web site will be posted when the contest begins.

In elementary, certificates will be awarded in each numbered category for each grade level where enough entries have been submitted for competition. In middle, secondary, and college certificates will be awarded in each numbered category where enough entries have been submitted for competition. Certificates will be mailed to sponsoring teacher by 31 August 2011.
